Some FOMAS Funded Projects
Investing in Essential Medical Equipment to Enhance Animal Ca
FOMAS raised almost $15,000 for new medical equipment when MAS moved to its new facility. Equipment such as surgical packs, an incubator, and an Autoclave allow the veterinary team at Metro Animal Services to provide consistent treatment and support to the animals in their care.
Supporting Community Pets through Low-Cost Microchip Clinics
In 2025, FOMAS funded 225 Microchips as part of their Low-Cost Microchip program. MAS hosts several drive-thru microchip clinics at the shelter, and they also travel to your neighborhoods to offer affordable pet care through these clinics. FOMAS gets the honor of sponsoring the first 50 microchips at a number of the clinics throughout the year. After the first 50, MAS offers microchips at a discounted rate.
Providing Updated Equipment and Supplies
FOMAS purchased a much-needed pill counter for MAS, which saves valuable staff time and creates greater efficiency. When the shelter is overcrowded, there is never enough time in the day, but this new device allows the staff to focus more time on animal care rather than manually counting pills.
Promoting Animal Welfare through Education and Specialized Training
FOMAS covered the cost for five (5) MAS Animal Control Officers to receive supplemental training from the National Animal Care & Control Association. This particular training focuses on animal crime forensics and seeks to improve investigative skills so that Animal Control Officers can properly address animal cruelty cases while promoting humane treatment and care to people and their pets.
Reducing Shelter Population by Providing Equipment to LMPD to Reunite Pets with their Owners
FOMAS provided funding to purchase a microchip scanner for each division of Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD). The scanners enable LMPD officers to return microchipped dogs to their owners, instead of bringing them to the shelter. Not only does this save time for the officers, it also helps reduce the number of dogs at Metro Animal Services.
Creating Safer, Comfortable Outdoor Spaces for Dogs
FOMAS provided funds to install multiple canopies in the play yards at Animal House Adoption Center. Now the dogs have a cool place to play in the shade during hot weather and a dry place to play in the rain.
MAS Enrichment Play Yard Dome
FOMAS, with the support of WHAS11, raised over $31,000 to turn an old salt dome into a dedicated dog enrichment area for training and play during inclement weather.
